The Board of Commissioners consists of five individuals who are
elected to represent the best interests of the community. The charge
of the Board is to set policies that guide the Bedford Park District.
Board members serve a six-year term and receive no compensation
for the time they give. They come from a variety of backgrounds but
share one common goal; serving the park and recreation needs of
the community.
President J. Edwards
(2003-2015)
Jack is the Superintendent of Public Works for the Village of
Bedford Park. His experience allows him to share his knowledge
and expertise as the Chairman of the Buildings and Grounds
Committee. He is committed to continuing the excellent rapport
that the Village of Bedford Park and the Bedford Park District have.
Vice President M. Sawka
(2007-2011)
Mike’s day job is as an Account Manager in sport’s memorabilia
with Schwartz Sports in Northbook, Illinois. He serves as the Vice
President of the Board and as the Chairman of the Recreation
Committee. Because of his position working with athletes from
around the country, he is able to take advantage of his connections
and offer a discounted rate for kids from our community to attend
Brian Urlacher’s Football Camp. Make sure to check upcoming
program books and flyers for this and other great opportunities.
Treasurer Patti Wilson
(2002-2015)
Patti produces tradeshows for GES Exposition Services in Chicago.
Her position on the Board is serving as the Treasurer and
Chairwoman of the Finance Committee. Patti brings a wealth of
knowledge and experience in business and finance to the Board.
Her most recent contributions to the Board include assisting in the
planning of the Annual Budget and Appropriation Ordinance and
long-range planning.
Commissioner Susan Kaput
(2001-2013)
Susan is a Commercial Service Representative with McNellis and
Company Insurance. She is the longest serving board member and
has served as both President and Vice-President in the past.
Currently Susan serves as the Chairwoman of the Policy &
Procedure Committee. During the past year she has worked closely
with Executive Director Taloff to update the Personnel Policy Book
to ensure that the park district meets all state and federal laws
pertaining to employment law and practices.
Commissioner Emily Croucher
(2009-2011)
Emily Croucher was elected in April to fill an unexpired two year
term. Prior to winning the election in April, she worked for the
Bedford Park District for nearly thirty years in the Recreation
Department. Emily is the mother of four children who were active
in park programs and grandmother to one who has recently joined
various park programs as well. Currently, Emily serves as the
Administrative Assistant in the Athletic Department at Argo
Community High School.
Mission Statement
The Bedford Park District is a municipal agency established to maintain attractive
parks and scenic areas and provide recreation programs for people of all ages.
Our main goal is to offer quality programs and services that enhance life experiences
through recreational, health, and educational programs today and for generations to come.
